I know I haven’t posted in a while, but September has been a really busy month. Work has taken up a lot of my time because I’ve had a few projects going on and some issues that I’m working through. I’ve been getting home late pretty often, and when I do get home, I’m still trying to work on eBay and the business wherever I can. There just hasn’t been much time for me to sit down and write about everything that’s going on. Sometimes I’ll have an idea while I’m driving, but by the time I get where I’m going, something else needs my attention and I never get around to putting it in my notes.
Then somehow a 5K took over my life.
A few months ago, I was challenged at work to run a 5K because one of my work nemeses thinks that he can beat me. He cannot. He will not beat me. It’s just not feasible.
I technically had about three months to prepare for this race, but I never really got around to training. Then I went on the cruise, came back weighing 208 pounds, and realized at the beginning of September that the race was only about a month away. That’s when I finally started taking it seriously. As I’m writing this, I’m down to 189.2 pounds.
Of course, I started by doing way too much. I overtrained, went to play basketball when I probably shouldn’t have, banged knees with a guy, and ended up with my other knee swollen. At one point I had two swollen knees, a bursitis flare-up, and my back was messed up from all the stress I was putting on my body. I lost about a week and a half of training because of all that and eventually had to slowly start working my way back.
The first couple of days back were slow, but this morning I decided to run an all-out 5K just to see where I was. I’m actually pretty proud of the time I got because I didn’t think I was going to be able to run that fast. It’s the fastest I’ve ever timed myself running that distance. I’ve definitely run more than three miles before, but I’ve never actually run a 5K and timed it. When I was younger, I would usually just go outside and run until I couldn’t run anymore. I wasn’t tracking pace or distance.
I’ve also spent way too much time researching 5Ks. If I’m being honest, that’s probably where a lot of my free time has gone this month. I’ve been looking at average 5K times, what’s considered a good time, what’s considered a bad time, and where different times rank. I’ve been researching training, pacing, and pretty much anything else I can find.
I’m determined not to lose this race.
September has really been about fitness and work.
Those have probably been the two biggest things taking up my time, but that doesn’t mean I stopped working on the business. I’m still working on eBay when I can, and I’ve also been communicating with manufacturers overseas about some product ideas that I’m trying to get made.
Then there’s real estate. I’ve been communicating with multiple contractors trying to get all the issues with the Apopka house fixed. There are still repairs that need to be managed, and that’s been another thing sitting on my plate this entire month.
As I’m actually writing all of this out, I’m realizing September has been a lot busier than I thought. I’ve been feeling like I’m moving slowly and not really getting enough done, but when I actually look at everything, I’m moving the needle pretty far in several areas.
The 5K basically forced me to finally start working on the fitness goals I set for myself in 2026. Fitness kept getting pushed aside because I was so focused on the business, and this month that completely changed. My focus shifted heavily toward getting back in shape, I’ve gone from 208 pounds after the cruise to 189.2, and I’m still finding time to work on the business, deal with everything happening at my job, and manage the problems with my real estate.
I guess September hasn’t been as unproductive as I thought.
