10/22/26 – I forgot to post this yesterday
Progress on the Apopka Roof
Finally, we’re making some progress on the roof. I contacted the roofer yesterday, and he confirmed that the materials are scheduled to be delivered today. At some point, there should be a pretty large delivery of roofing supplies arriving at the property.
The good news is that I don’t have to drive over there to let anybody in. According to the roofer, they won’t need access to the inside of the house because they can get everything onto the roof from the outside. That’s great because it saves me an unnecessary trip. Hopefully, now that the materials are arriving, we can finally get this project moving and have the roof completed relatively quickly.
Once the roof is finished, I can move on to the drainage project and then get started on repairing the room that my former tenant destroyed. I need to get that room back into rentable condition as soon as possible because every additional month it sits vacant is costing me money. I’m hoping that once the roof is completed, the other projects can move along without too many additional delays.
Working With Another Manufacturer
I also managed to get some business development work done yesterday. I spent a good amount of time communicating with a manufacturer about developing another product, or technically two products since I’m looking to create two variations of the same item.
We went back and forth discussing the dimensions, specifications and other details. The manufacturer confirmed that they would be able to produce both variations, and when I woke up this morning, I had a message waiting with their pricing.
Unfortunately, I’m not sure the numbers are going to work. The prices they quoted seem a little high, and once I factor in shipping, tariffs and the other expenses involved in importing the products, I’m not sure there will be enough profit left to make it worthwhile.
I still need to figure out what the pricing would look like if I ordered a larger quantity. I’m hoping that increasing the order size will bring the cost per unit down enough to give me a decent profit margin. I don’t want to spend money developing and importing products that are barely going to make me anything after all the expenses are accounted for.
If the pricing doesn’t work, I’ll reach out to other manufacturers and see if someone else can produce the same products for less. If nobody can manufacture them at a price that makes financial sense, then I’ll just scrap the idea and move on to something else. There’s no point in forcing a product into my catalog if the numbers don’t work.
At least I made some progress yesterday. The manufacturer confirmed that the products can be made, we went over the specifications, and now I have an initial quote to work with.
Training and Productivity
I also managed to get my workout done yesterday. I did my tempo run on the treadmill, and that thing freaking killed me. It was a tough workout, but I got it done, so at least I’m continuing to make progress toward my goal of running a sub-20-minute 5K.
I was also able to leave work a little early and stop by to see my parents, which was nice. Afterward, I went home and helped my wife with some things around the house since she had gotten home late.
Even with everything I managed to accomplish, I still don’t feel like I was as productive as I should have been. I spent quite a bit of time going back and forth with the manufacturer and looking through different product catalogs, but I didn’t get as much done as I would have liked.
I’m still trying to figure out how to improve my focus and productivity so I can make better use of the limited time I have available. I have a lot of things I want to accomplish, and I need to get better at organizing my time and following through with the work.
I’ll get this focus and productivity thing down eventually. I just need to keep working on it.
