Blowing Money This Pre-Thanksgiving Week

I’ve been busting my ass trying to figure out this whole moving situation. This past week was nonstop. I worked Monday, drove to Clearwater that same night, had my recertification class on Tuesday, and then drove back to Orlando on Wednesday night. Since Wednesday I’ve been moving things over to the new house and working on it every day. I took the rest of the week off so I could get everything fixed and handle the touch ups my wife wanted. At this point I think I’m just about done with everything.

My contractor friend helped out a lot by handling some of the bigger jobs. He changed a couple of toilets and hung a few shelves for me, which freed me up to focus on painting and organizing the house. My office is fully set up now, so next I need to finish putting together the rest of the rooms.

Today is Sunday and Thanksgiving is this Thursday. My goal is to have everything moved in by Wednesday and have the house fully set up. My wife does not know this is the plan, and I would rather keep it to myself because we problem solve differently. She tends to stress easily, especially when I go full throttle on something, so I’d rather not overwhelm her. I return to work this week, but at least I’m opening, which means I can leave early and use the afternoons to finish getting the house ready.

My biggest issue right now is how much money I’m spending trying to bring the house up to my wife’s standards. I think we’re going to need to have a conversation about these standards because the bank account keeps taking hits from wants and desires that I don’t think are necessary. My mindset is that we can buy used items and upgrade later when times are better. Right now times are not good, so we should be trying to conserve as much money as possible. Instead, we’re out here spending one hundred and seven dollars on curtain rods. Yes, curtain rods. That’s crazy.

Anyway, the condo is still not rented out. I’ve accepted that I will be covering that mortgage for December, perfectly timed for the holidays. I will probably have to drop the rent on that property too. I know I have some big expenses coming up, so I need to be prepared.

The Apopka property has not been touched since the door job from that service call back in late September. I already got the quote for the larger job, so maybe sometime in December I can finally get that contracted out.
