A Hell of a Week and it’s Only Wednesday

Since my last update, things have been an adventure, and not the fun kind. Work has been a mess lately because two of our cremation machines went down, and the case volume keeps climbing. We are slowly falling further behind, and it is starting to wear on everyone. I planned to take tomorrow and Friday off to work on the rental property in Apopka, my problem child, but the timing could not be worse. The contractor is already set to go, and I have to be there to help him, so canceling is not an option. Depending on how things look Friday, I might come in later in the afternoon to help catch up at work. I do not want to, but if it really needs to be done, I will try to make it happen, no guarantees though.

On the business side, I have made a few more eBay sales and used the profits to pay down the credit card I used to buy inventory. There is still about seven hundred dollars left on that balance, but at least it is heading in the right direction. This past weekend was all about family. Saturday was spent taking Halloween pictures with my wife and the baby, and Sunday we went out to dinner with my brother and parents to celebrate both my stepdad’s and brother’s birthdays. It was nice to get out and just enjoy a normal moment.

Since Monday, the week has been messy, mostly because of work. The one bright spot was yesterday when my son turned five months old. I made sure to leave work early enough to get home and take his monthly pictures. That alone made the week feel worth it. On the eBay front, I stopped posting new listings for now. Space has officially run out in my room, and boxes are starting to pile up everywhere. I have been thinking about starting to pack early, but I am trying to hold off until we are closer to the move-in date. Once the tenants turn in their keys, that is when the chaos will really begin.

Right now, I feel stuck in limbo. There is a lot to do, but I cannot do much yet. It feels like waiting for the storm to hit. I know once it starts, I will be moving nonstop. I did check on my Facebook listing for the condo and noticed it has gotten sixty-five clicks but only one save, which is not great. I realized I can take new photos of the place and use AI to remove the furniture, which I have been experimenting with. The pictures actually look cleaner that way, so I just need to finish editing them. Once that is done, I will update the listing and hopefully draw more interest. That is tonight’s goal, fix the listing, make the photos pop, and keep pushing forward one step at a time.

Also, I interviewed a new prospect today; a young kid everyone keeps saying looks like me, which honestly cracked me up. After a few scheduling hiccups, we finally sat down this afternoon and worked out all the details. He decided to take the job, and I’m genuinely hoping he works out. It feels like he’ll be a good fit, and if things go as planned, we won’t be short-staffed for too long. It’s a small win, but I’ll take it.
